Davidson County Chapter Breakfast Meeting

Think Like a Lawyer
Presented by: Jeffrey M. Beemer, Member, Dickinson Wright PLLC

Working in Human Resources is a lot like taking a law school exam.  You get a complicated fact pattern thrown at you, and within a limited amount of time, you have to spot the issues involved and make informed recommendations and decisions.  However, you do not have to navigate these waters once a semester.  You get to do it every day.  In this interactive seminar, we will review hypothetical factual scenarios as a group, discuss what legal issues may be implicated, and discuss how you would respond in each situation.

In this interactive presentation, attendees will learn:

1. How to spot legal issues in the workplace
2. How to address those issues - investigating the facts, understanding the legal issues that may be involved, and applying the law to those facts
3. How to think like a lawyer on such issues as hiring, employee discipline, FMLA, ADA, Title VII, workplace harassment, religious accommodation, and employee speech.

Registration:  Closes June 14 at 3 PM CT - two days prior to the event.

Schedule: Doors open at 7:15 AM CT for registration and networking. Breakfast begins at 7:30 AM, and the presentation starts promptly at 8:00 AM

Certification: This program is approved by SHRM and HRCI for 1 CEU.

Parking: Self-parking is complimentary for MT|SHRM meeting attendees. Self-parking is located behind the hotel at 28th Ave & West End Ave. Once you arrive at the parking gate, pull a ticket and park. Then enter the hotel through the back hotel entrance. Upon exit, the gate will raise once each attendee pulls up to it.  No ticket will be needed to exit.
