Untangling HR Data to Share Your Meaningful Story in a Powerful Way

Presented by Tammy LaPoint, M. Ed., Statewide Virtual Trainer, Tennessee Department of Human Services, Division of Rehabilitation Services, Lisa Baker, Talent Management Program Manager, Brookdale Senior Living, and Melissa Wilson, Director of People Operations, Lee Company

In our data-driven world, Human Resource leaders now have the opportunity to utilize data they have at their fingertips to tell meaningful stories, demonstrate the value of the work they do each day, and drive business results. However, this task can be daunting to those of us not formally trained in data analytics. In this session, we are joined by HR leaders who have mastered the art and will share how they have used storytelling to present critical information to HR and operational leaders across the business. Through a series of ted-talk style presentations, these seasoned experts will show us how to unravel overwhelming amounts of data, determine what’s most valuable to business partners, and craft a message that will make you an invaluable partner and substantially impact your organization’s people strategy.

After attending this session, you will be able to…

  • Analyze HR data and evaluate what is the most appropriate and valuable information based on the needs of their business partners.

  • Explain how you will take analytics from your programs, interpret them, and share them in a way that tells a clear story about those programs.

  • Understand what business leaders are seeking when requesting data from their HR partners to make decisions for their people strategy.

Lisa Baker has spent the greater part of her career educating others—teaching English to 7th graders, serving as a reference librarian, and for the past 22 years training leaders and individual contributors in the corporate environment. She considers her greatest achievements to be when a learner gets “that look” on their face and says, “Oh, I never thought of [fill in the blank] that way,” or “You’ve just given me a lightbulb moment.”  Currently a Talent Management Program Manager at Brookdale Senior Living, she is in charge of the performance management process, the IGNITE leadership development program for individual contributors and lower level leaders, and an internal newsletter, The Servant Leader. Her professional sweet spot is facilitating workshops such as Everything DiSC and leading team building sessions.

Melissa Wilson, Director of People Operations, Lee Company

Melissa Wilson is the Director of People Operations at Lee Company, where she leads transformative initiatives to optimize and retain talent, strengthen the workforce, and drive continuous improvement to scale and grow the business.
