Annual Employment Law Update - Preparing for the Turbulence Ahead in 2016
Presented by Tim Garrett, Partner, Bass Berry Sims

Over the past year, the Supreme Court has made some key employment decisions and more are expected in 2016.  Wage and hour lawsuits continue on the rise, and the new “white collar” exemption regulations are due to be announced in July 2016.  How will they impact your business?  Will the DOL include revisions to the “duties tests” in addition to the increased salary levels?  Will there be any “phase-in” of the salary levels?  Also, will regulatory agencies continue their strict review of “independent contractor” classifications?

In addition, attracting and retaining qualified employees remains a challenge as “ban the box” legislation continues to gather steam across the country.  What can you ask or should you ask about criminal backgrounds?  The NLRB continues its assault on arbitration agreements with “class action waivers”, despite Supreme Court precedent to the contrary.  And, the VW plant in Chattanooga is experiencing first-hand the impact of the NLRB’s “micro unit” issues.  There, the Board has scheduled an election of only the maintenance employees at the plant, excluding production workers.  What might this mean for your business?

Schedule: Doors open at 11:00 am for registration and networking. Buffet lunch begins at 11:20 am, and the presentation starts promptly at 12:00 noon.
