Marijuana and Workplace Safety: Where are we now?
Presented by Luther Wright, Jr., Of Council and Assistant Director of Client Training, Ogletree Deakins
| About half the states in the country now have legalized medical marijuana under their laws and some have added recreational use as well. However, medical and recreational marijuana usage is a workplace safety issue that all employers must recognize and handle appropriately. In this webinar session, we will discuss whether and how employers are required to accommodate medical marijuana usage; the impact of an employee having a medical marijuana card; the steps an employer can take to keep safety the top priority; and other employment issues employers face with this issue. |
|
Attendees will learn
- 1) The current state of the law on medical and recreational marijuana usage;
- 2) Specific safety and workers’ compensation concerns regarding marijuana usage by employees;
- 3) Accommodations required under the Americans with Disabilities Act; and
- 4) Special issues related to discrimination on the basis of medical marijuana.
